What is Vedic Maths?
Vedic Maths is a collection of techniques and Sutras to solve mathematical problems in easy and faster way. It contains 16 sutra (formulas) and 13 sub sutras (formulas), which is used to solve problems of different mathematical fields like calculus, geometry, algebra and many more.

It is derived from Vedas, more specifically Atharva Veda. It was discovered by Indian Mathematician Jagadguru Shri Bharathi Krishna Tirthaji in the period between A.D. 1911 and 1918.

Who was Bharathi Krishna Tirthaji ?

Bharathi Krishna Tirthaji was born in March 1884 in Puri Village, Odisha, India. Other than mathematics he was very good in science, humanities and was excellent in Sanskrit language. He was also a keen follower of meditation and spiritualism. In Fact he claims to have gained knowledge about Vedic Sutras during meditation near a forest named Sringeri. He also claims that he learned Sutras/ Techniques from Vedas, specifically Atharva Veda and Rig Veda in general during his meditation period of 8 years.

कौन थे भारती कृष्ण तीर्थजी ?

भारती कृष्ण तीर्थजी का जन्म मार्च 1884 में पुरी गांव, ओडिशा, भारत में हुआ था। गणित के अलावा वे विज्ञान, मानविकी में बहुत अच्छे थे और संस्कृत भाषा में उत्कृष्ट थे। वे ध्यान और अध्यात्मवाद के भी गहरे अनुयायी थे। वास्तव में उनका दावा है कि श्रृंगेरी नामक जंगल के पास ध्यान के दौरान उन्होंने वैदिक सूत्रों के बारे में ज्ञान प्राप्त किया था। उनका यह भी दावा है कि उन्होंने ८ वर्षों की ध्यान अवधि के दौरान वेदों, विशेष रूप से अथर्ववेद और ऋग्वेद से सूत्र/तकनीक सीखी।

He wrote 16 Sutras in 1957, which he named as Vedic Mathematics. Later, he planned to pen down more Sutras but he developed cataract in both eyes and passed away in 1960.

Vedic Maths Trick:

Multiplication with 999-

Steps-

1. Subtract 1 from the number other than 999.
2. Now the nearest number of 999 is 1000.
3. Subtract the digit other than 999 with 1000.
4. For that the easiest way to do is to change the number above 6 i.e. 9 with 10 and rest remain the same.
5. Now, (9-7= 2), (9-5 = 4), (10-6 = 4)

Squaring with digits ending with 5

Steps-

1. Add 1 to the number other than 5, i.e. 7.
2. Multiply the original number with the result after adding 1.(7 x 8)
3. Square of single digit 5 is easy i.e. 25.
4. The result is 5625.

Personal Experience
When covid hit the world and lockdown was announced no one had any idea what it was going to bring in the lives of thousands. I was on the same boat as you all, enjoying the initial lockdown of 21 days, but as the situation got worse and we realised we have to adopt the ‘New Normal’ and get digitised I started to take some online courses to utilize my time. When I got introduced to Vedic Maths. There were several reasons for taking up the course- Being a non-mathematics student but also having mathematics as one of my favourite subjects and the most important, realising that math is the core subject for all the competitive exams after 12th, I went forward with it. Initially I had no idea of building an academy and teaching hundreds of students and also getting the best response ever.

जब कोविड ने दुनिया केहर मचाया और उससे बचने के लिए लोखड़ौन की घोषणा की गई तो किसी को भी अंदाजा नहीं था कि यह हजारों लोगों के जीवन में क्या बदलाव लाने वाला है। मैं आप सभी की तरह एक ही नाव पर थी , 21 दिनों के शुरुआती लॉकडाउन का आनंद ले रही थी , लेकिन जैसे-जैसे स्थिति खराब होती गई और हमें एहसास हुआ कि हमें ‘न्यू नॉर्मल’ को अपनाना होगा और डिजीटल होना ही पड़ेगा , मैंने अपने समय का उपयोग करने के लिए कुछ ऑनलाइन पाठ्यक्रम लेना शुरू कर दिया। . जब मेरा परिचय वैदिक गणित से हुआ। पाठ्यक्रम लेने के कई कारण थे- एक गैर-गणित छात्र होने के नाते, लेकिन गणित को मेरे पसंदीदा विषयों में से एक के रूप में और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण, यह महसूस करते हुए कि 12 वीं के बाद सभी प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं के लिए गणित मुख्य विषय है, मैं आगे बढ़ गयी । शरू में वैदिक मैथ्स पड़ने पर मेरी जीवन कैसे बदल जाएगी इसका अंदाजा नहीं था ।

I took up the course and learned wholeheartedly but the eagerness to learn more and more and gain more knowledge around that subject grew in me. I used to compete with my elders in my family and when they asked, ‘How could you be so fast in calculation?’ I used to teach him with all the methods I learned on that particular day. The explaining process is one which I enjoyed the most. So some of my younger cousins started to learn with me and apparently I got some local students with mouth advertising.

Now, this was the time I went into paid marketing to introduce this wonderful course introduced in India to thousands of students across the country because still Vedic Maths is not that popular as other courses. No doubt I got a wonderful response and from then it was unstoppable. The only thing that still drives me is the response I get after the course from students and their parents. Nothing is as good as imparting positive knowledge and someone cherishing it.
